If Alberta is where you want to live in Canada, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) can be a key path to permanent residence. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is Alberta’s way of bringing in workers and businesspeople who want to live and work or start a business in the province.
What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?
The Government of Alberta runs the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) decides if someone gets permanent residence. Alberta picks people who can help the province’s job market or economy.
If you want to apply, knowing the Alberta PNP streams matters because each stream has different rules, job offer requirements, and ways to be selected.
Streams Under AAIP
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program has eight ways to apply: four for workers and four for business people.
Worker Streams
Tourism and Hospitality Stream
Alberta Opportunity Stream
Alberta Express Entry Stream
Rural Renewal Stream
The Alberta Express Entry Stream also has paths for areas like health care, technology and police work.
Entrepreneur Streams
Rural Entrepreneur Stream
Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
Farm Stream
Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program has rules for each way to apply so people should look at the rules before making an Expression of Interest or applying.
CRS Requirement for Alberta PNP
There is not one CRS requirement for every Alberta Advantage Immigration Program path. For the Alberta Express Entry Stream, applicants need an Express Entry profile and must meet Alberta’s rules for that stream.
AAIP considers what the province needs, which jobs are needed, and the person’s background. People should not think that a certain CRS score will get them an Alberta nomination.
An Alberta nomination through an Express Entry path gives 600 CRS points under the federal Express Entry system. This can improve a person's rank and increase their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.
Is a Job Offer Required for AAIP?
A job offer is needed for Alberta Advantage Immigration Program worker paths, but requirements vary by stream. For instance, the Alberta Opportunity Stream requires applicants to already be working in Alberta and have a job offer in Alberta. The Tourism and Hospitality Stream also needs a full-time job offer. The Rural Renewal Stream usually needs a job offer from a company in a rural area of Alberta and support from the local community.
The Alberta Express Entry Stream may also require a job offer, depending on the path. Entrepreneur paths focus on owning a business, investing, or starting a company rather than a normal job offer.
How Does the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program Process Work?
For worker paths in the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, people usually start by submitting a Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI). Alberta scores and ranks these and selects people based on job market needs, available spots, and other factors.
If they are invited, the person can apply for AAIP. For Express Entry applicants, an Alberta nomination comes before the permanent residence application with IRCC.
The current WEOI system is important for applicants because submitting an Expression of Interest does not mean they will receive an invitation or be selected.
Why Choose the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program can be an option for skilled workers, professionals, international graduates, and businesspeople connected to Alberta’s job market or economy.
In 2026, Alberta said health care, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, and agriculture are key areas for workers. This makes understanding the current AAIP Canada rules very important.
Immigration rules and requirements can change, so people should check the details before applying through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program.
