Study in Germany

To study in Germany, international students must get Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB). Another name for it is the entry qualification for higher education. To study in Germany at a German university or university of applied sciences, international students must have a HZB. Students may enrol in a Studienkolleg, a preparatory school if their school-leaving certificate is not accepted. The student can get their HZB by taking a Feststellungsprüfung (assessment test) after attending the Studienkolleg.

Most programs and disciplines taught in higher education institutions in Germany are taught in German. So, most universities require a minimum of B2 proficiency in German, except for English-taught postgraduate and foreign degree programs, which require proof of English proficiency for those planning to study in Germany.

Numerous universities in Germany provide scholarship opportunities for students from abroad, each featuring distinct application procedures and eligibility criteria for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs who wish to study in Germany.

You will need to include proof of your financial stability. This ensures that you will be able to cover the costs of living and your studies in Germany. You can prove your financial resources with a bank guarantee, a specified sum on a blocked account ("Sperrkonto"), proof of parental income, or proof of receiving an acknowledged scholarship when you plan to study in Germany.

Indian students who wish to study in Germany must have an APS certificate. Since many Indian students apply to study in Germany each year, the APS certification is used to verify the authenticity of Indian academic records.

Following graduation, students from abroad can submit an application for an 18-month residence permit in Germany to look for work in their field of study after they study in Germany. Individuals can take on any job while looking for a permanent position. Once they secure a suitable role, they become eligible to apply for a residence permit or an EU Blue Card, which helps them obtain permanent residency in the country.

Students who study in Germany are permitted to work up to 20 hours each week. Non-EU/EEA international students can work 140 full days or 280 half days annually. They are not allowed to work independently or as freelancers. Being an academic assistant is an exception. Educational assistants are allowed to work an unlimited number of days. However, they still need to notify the foreigners' office.
