Why CRS Scores Could Drop in 2026
CRS scores might drop in 2026 due to
changes in immigration policies and visa limits. As more people apply and rules
shift, competition will rise, potentially lowering the cutoff scores. Staying

Category-based Express Entry draws now
require 12 months of work experience in eligible jobs, instead of 6 months,
reducing the number of competitors. This lowers the number of eligible
candidates in healthcare, STEM, and trades, so Immigration, Refugees and
Citizenship Canada (IRCC) ends up issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to people
with lower CRS scores.
Early 2026 draws show this trend: on
January 7, there were 8,000 ITAs at CRS 511, which dropped to 509 by January
21. Scores may fall below 500 by mid-year if large draws keep happening. French
speakers already secured ITAs at 379, and healthcare reached 462 recently.
Recently, another example highlighting
how low CRS scores can go in category-based draws occurred on February 19th
2026, when a special Physicians with Canadian Work Experience draw issued 391
Invitations to Apply (ITAs) with a CRS cut-off score of just 169, one of the
lowest scores seen in Express Entry draws. This shows that when we focus on
specific immigration categories, it really helps bring down those CRS scores
for people who qualify.
Impact on Key Express Entry Canada Categories
Healthcare and STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) occupations face big changes as many
recent graduates with under 12 months of experience are being sidelined. Trades
and transport categories could see similar drops, but physicians and senior
managers often exceed the threshold and may see little change. Canada’s
2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan plans to accept 395,000 permanent residents
in 2026. About 62% of this, roughly 244,000, will come through economic
immigration programs.
Within the economic category, the
Express Entry plan is to invite about 110,700 applicants. The Provincial
Nominee Program (PNP) will invite about 120,000 applicants.
Recent CEC draws had CRS cut-off scores
from 505 to 510, with 1,000 to over 3,000 invitations given each time. These
draws mostly assist candidates living or working in Canada but don't clear all
with mid-range CRS scores.
