Who Is Eligible for the Education Occupations Category?

Canada recognizes the important role that educators and academic professionals play in building strong communities and supporting the country’s education system. Through Express Entry category-based selection, candidates with experience in education-related occupations may receive targeted invitations to apply for Canada permanent residence (PR). This category helps Canada attract qualified professionals who can contribute to schools, educational institutions, and learning environments across the country.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Education Occupations category under Express Entry, candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • Have at least 12 months of full-time work experience, or the equivalent amount of part-time work experience, gained within the last three years.
  • The work experience must be in one eligible education occupation identified by the Government of Canada.
  • The work experience does not need to be continuous.
  • The experience may be obtained either in Canada or outside Canada. Maintain a valid Express Entry profile and meet the eligibility criteria for the respective category-based draw.

Candidates who meet these requirements may be considered during targeted Express Entry draws for education professionals. Those selected may receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR through the Express Entry system.
