Healthcare professionals and social service workers may receive priority invitations through category-based Express Entry draws.

Who Is Eligible for the Healthcare and Social Services Occupations Category?

Canada continues to face a strong demand for skilled professionals in the healthcare sector. Through Express Entry category-based selection, candidates with experience in healthcare and social services occupations may receive targeted invitations to apply for Canada permanent residence (PR).

This category focuses on attracting qualified healthcare workers and social service professionals who can support Canada’s healthcare system and contribute to the well-being of communities across the country.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

To qualify under the Healthcare and Social Services Occupations category, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Have at least 12 months of full-time work experience, or an equivalent amount of part-time work experience, gained within the last three years
  • The work experience must be in one eligible healthcare or social services occupation listed by the Government of Canada.
  • The experience does not need to be continuous.
  • The work experience may be gained either in Canada or outside Canada.
  • Candidates must maintain a valid Express Entry profile and meet the eligibility criteria set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the respective category-based draw

Candidates who satisfy these criteria and have an active Express Entry profile may be considered for invitations during targeted draws for healthcare and social services professionals. The Government of Canada releases detailed instructions and eligibility conditions for each round of invitations.:

Receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) through this category can help qualified professionals move one step closer to obtaining Canada PR through the Express Entry system.
