Researchers with Canadian Work Experience

Canada continues to encourage innovation and research by attracting skilled professionals working in research-related fields. Through Express Entry category-based selection, researchers who have gained relevant work experience in Canada may receive targeted invitations to apply for Canada permanent residence (PR).

This category helps Canada retain talented individuals who contribute to scientific advancement, research development, and knowledge creation within the country.

To qualify for the Researchers with Canadian Work Experience category, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Have at least 12 months of full-time work experience, or the equivalent amount of part-time work experience, gained within the last three years.

• The work experience must be in an eligible research-related occupation identified by the Government of Canada.

• The work experience does not need to be continuous.

• The experience must be obtained in Canada.

• Maintain a valid Express Entry profile and meet the eligibility criteria for the respective category-based draw.

Candidates who meet these conditions may be considered during targeted Express Entry draws for researchers with Canadian work experience. Those selected may receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR through the Express Entry system.
