Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations

Canada continues to attract skilled professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through the Express Entry category-based selection system. These occupations play an important role in driving innovation, supporting technological advancement, and strengthening Canada’s economy.

Through targeted Express Entry category-based draws, candidates with relevant work experience in eligible STEM occupations may receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada permanent residence (PR).

To qualify for the STEM occupations category under Express Entry, candidates must meet the following conditions:

• Have at least 12 months of full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work experience, gained within the past three years.
• The work experience must be in one eligible STEM occupation identified by the Government of Canada.
• The work experience does not need to be continuous. The experience may be obtained either in Canada or outside Canada.
• Maintain a valid Express Entry profile and meet the eligibility criteria set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the respective category-based draw.

Candidates who meet these requirements may be considered during targeted Express Entry draws for STEM professionals. These draws help Canada invite skilled individuals with technical and scientific expertise who can contribute to the country’s growing innovation and technology sectors.
